The training course teaches the basics of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and clearly demonstrates how it is used in software development projects. Practical examples are used to illustrate the methodological process from analysis preparation to evaluation. Participants work through the entire process step by step in exercises.
Participants will be able to independently apply Fault Tree Analysis in their projects to systematically identify and evaluate risks. They will master the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of fault trees, recognize potential stumbling blocks, and know how to avoid them in order to derive well-founded optimization measures.
Training content:
Introduction: Areas of application and benefits of FTA
Theoretical basics
Probability logic (Boolean algebra)
Fault probabilities and fault rates
Elements of a fault tree
Planning and preparation
Integration into the development process
Composition of the analysis team
Required input information
Definition of analysis objectives and boundary conditions
Carrying out an FTA
Definition of a top event
Creation of the fault tree (procedure, modeling guidelines, etc.)
Qualitative evaluation of the fault tree (minimum cuts)
Determination of reliability data (failure rates, probabilities of occurrence)
Quantitative evaluation of the fault tree (probability of occurrence of the top event, importance analysis)
Documentation of the FTA (analysis report) and derived measures
Overview: Tool support for creating and evaluating the FTA
Connection to other analysis methods (e.g., FMEA, FMEDA, RBD)
The content of the training can be tailored to your project-specific requirements and questions.
Target audience
The training is aimed at specialists in hardware and software development, safety managers, safety engineers, system architects, and quality managers who use fault tree analysis in development projects or would like to deepen their existing knowledge.
Prerequisites
An understanding of E/E systems is required. Additional knowledge of probability theory, reliability engineering, or FMEA will make it easier to get started, but is not essential.
Further information
We offer this training as a customized training course. There are currently no fixed dates for individual registrations. We would be happy to provide you with a customized offer for your company.
