MAROS: Lokalisierung und Odometrie der nächsten Generation

Magnetic Railway Onboard Sensor

Localization and odometry via the rail’s magnetic fingerprint

ITK Engineering developed a purely train-borne, precise localization solution for rail traffic. The MAROS sensor solution offers the benefits of precision and availability for localization, for example, for ETCS Level 3, Automatic Train Operation (ATO), and Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC). It does not require any additional infrastructure, so there is no need to invest in outboard hardware or shut down tracks for maintenance. The sensor can be used on all metal tracks worldwide and is impervious to weather and GNSS signal limitations.

The Magnetic Railway Onboard Sensor (MAROS) also plays a pivotal role in AutomatedTrain, a research project pursued by ITK and partners in industry and science to enable fully automated staging and stabling runs for trains using MAROS in combination with environmental detection technologies. The German government is providing 42.6 million euros in funding for the project up to 2026.

Taming complexity with modular software architectures and platforms

Complexity is on the rise in railway use cases with more and more customers calling for tailored solutions. On top of that, software is accounting for more of the overall system’s value. And cyber security is a growing concern. All this amounts to a towering challenge for developers. Add to that the pressure to cut costs and fast-track development cycles. Modular software platforms provide a fitting answer to this conundrum. They support incremental development and can serve to engineer railway solutions that are robust, variable, scalable, and approvable.

Need some assistance managing product variants? Do you have questions about developing modular software platforms?

Formal methods

Digitaler Datenfluss eines vorbeifahrenden Zuges

Formal methods, a revolution in safety-critical systems development

Formal methods play a pivotal role in railway engineering. They help contain the rapidly rising tide of complexity in safety-critical systems with very little effort. Formal methods enable engineers to make mathematical statements about the completeness and correctness of systems. And that lightens developers’ workload and cuts costs.

We assist our customers with:
• The development process
• Requirements engineering
• Test management

Do you need a partner to help sort out problems with formal methods? Do you have questions you would like to put to our experts?
