ITK Engineering CI/CD toolchain earns safety qualifications

The enterprise’s certified toolchain serves to develop safety-critical software

Ruelzheim, 2020, June 17. Customers want premium software that rises to the demands of increasing complexity, critical safety standards, very agile projects, and speedy time to market. ITK Engineering GmbH, a technology company that develops tailored software solutions for customers in various industries, meets these demands with a continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) toolchain developed specifically to this end. TÜV SÜD recently certified ITK’s toolchain to the TCL1 standard (up to ASIL D). The product of a modern software engineering culture, this toolchain provides an agile, transparent and uniform path for the entire company to follow when ITK Engineering develops software for customers.

Certified for greater safety and reliable software development

This TÜV SÜD certificate rewardes ITK Engineering as ‘FIT for purpose TCL 1 (up to ASIL D).’ It confirms the company’s the adept use of underlying CI/CD tools. It also certifies that ready-made manuals and checklists ensure that ITK Engineering puts the toolchain to proper compliant use. This way, the company is able to deliver complex, safety-critical software to customers in fast cycles and high quality standards.

One for all: A single toolchain for all sectors

ITK Engineering employs the certified toolchain to develop software for every line of business, be it the automotive industry, medical technology or railway engineering. Continuous integration, continuous delivery and SysDevOps methods enable fast release cycles and high quality while providing the flexibility needed to develop innovative software solutions in an agile way. The toolchain covers all stages of analytical quality assurance and testing. Many steps are automated to avoid the errors that can occur when humans execute these tasks manually. The toolchain itself is secured in a way that prevents it from introducing faults, so there is zero risk that it could comprise functional safety. Customers can also draw on ITK Engineering’s know-how in toolchain certification.

“The decisive advantage in realizing the ITK CI/CD toolchain was that we exploited synergetic effects across divisions from the outset. This way, we were able to create a toolchain that benefits software development right up to the highest safety level of the various industries. We are proud that an independent body, TÜV SÜD, has confirmed the success of our effort and that this enables us to even better meet our customers’ demands,” says, Dr. Dominik Holling, Senior Expert for Test Methodology and Development Processes at ITK Engineering GmbH.
